Massey Ferguson traces its roots to 1847, when Daniel Massey founded a farm implement works in Newcastle, Ontario, that grew into Massey-Harris, one of Canada's largest manufacturers. In 1953 Massey-Harris merged with Northern Ireland's Ferguson Company — founded by inventor Harry Ferguson, creator of the three-point hitch — to form Massey-Harris-Ferguson, shortened to Massey Ferguson in 1958. The brand's red tractors became a fixture on farms worldwide; AGCO Corporation acquired Massey Ferguson in 1994, and it remains one of AGCO's core global brands today.
