The Massey Ferguson 180 was the North American-market counterpart to the UK-built MF 175, sharing the same Perkins A4.236 diesel but assembled in Detroit for the US and Canadian row-crop market. Tested at Nebraska as Test 900 for the diesel and Test 1021 for the gasoline version, it offered farmers a mid-size row-crop tractor with an optional Multi-Power power-shift transmission.

History

Built at Massey Ferguson's Detroit, Michigan plant starting in 1964, the MF 180 served as the North American row-crop equivalent to the UK-produced MF 175, sharing the same Perkins A4.236 four-cylinder diesel engine while being marketed and finished for the American farm equipment market. It slotted into Massey Ferguson's row-crop lineup as a step up from the 135 and 165 in available power.

Buyers could choose between a standard Dual Range six-speed transmission or the Multi-Power power-shift option, giving on-the-go range changes without clutching. Both diesel and gasoline versions were run through the Nebraska Tractor Test Lab (Tests 900 and 1021), and the 180 remained in production through 1975 before Massey Ferguson's North American range transitioned to later series numbering.
