The Massey Ferguson 135 is one of the best-known small utility tractors ever built, launched at the 1964 Smithfield Show alongside the 165 and 175 as a modernized successor to the MF 35. Powered by the proven Perkins AD3.152 diesel, it combined simple, rugged mechanicals with Ferguson's three-point hydraulics, making it a favorite on small farms worldwide. More than 413,000 were built at Coventry over a 15-year run.

History

Debuting in 1964 at the Smithfield Show alongside the larger MF 165 and 175, the Massey Ferguson 135 replaced the MF 35 as the entry point into Massey Ferguson's row-crop and utility lineup. It kept the well-regarded Perkins AD3.152 three-cylinder diesel and the same basic Ferguson-system hydraulics that had defined the brand since the TE-20, wrapped in a more modern, squared-off sheet metal style.

Offered with a straightforward six-speed transmission (later an eight-speed option from 1970), the MF 135 earned a reputation for reliability and ease of maintenance that made it a mainstay on small farms, in orchards, and as a general-purpose yard tractor. Built primarily at Coventry, England, with additional assembly in Detroit for the North American market, production ran until 1979 in the UK, though the US market moved on to the MF 235 in 1975. Its long production run and enormous parts availability have made it one of the most popular classic tractors among collectors and hobby farmers today.
