The Massey Ferguson 175 was the largest of the trio launched at the 1964 Smithfield Show, built around the larger Perkins A4.236 diesel to give Massey Ferguson a genuine mid-size row-crop tractor. Available with an eight-speed gearbox or the optional Multi-Power power shift, it offered noticeably more pulling power than the 135 and 165 while retaining the same Ferguson-system hydraulics and familiar operator layout.

History

Introduced in 1964 alongside the smaller MF 135 and 165, the Massey Ferguson 175 topped out the new row-crop family with a larger-displacement Perkins A4.236 four-cylinder diesel, moving Massey Ferguson further into the mid-horsepower row-crop market that had traditionally been the domain of larger American makes. Tested at Nebraska as Test 897, the 175 delivered a meaningful step up in both drawbar and PTO power over its smaller siblings.

The 175 could be specified with a straightforward eight-speed gear transmission or the Multi-Power power-shift option, which allowed the operator to shift between high and low ranges under load. It remained a popular mid-range choice for row-crop and general farm work through the early-to-mid 1970s before Massey Ferguson's numbering moved on to the 200 series.
