History

Launched in the late 1950s as Massey Ferguson expanded its lineup beyond the TE-20-derived MF 35, the MF 65 paired a larger-displacement Perkins four-cylinder diesel with the same proven Ferguson three-point hitch and live PTO system. It quickly became known as a dependable, slightly heavier-duty alternative for row-crop and general-purpose farm work.

A notable feature introduced partway through the model's life was Massey Ferguson's Multi-Power transmission, a power-shift system giving the operator a high/low range shift under load without clutching, doubling the standard six-speed gearbox into a 12-speed. The MF 65 was offered in gasoline, diesel, and LP-gas variants and was tested multiple times at the Nebraska Tractor Test Lab (Tests 657, 745, and 808), reflecting its broad availability across fuel types during a period of rapid change in Massey Ferguson's engine sourcing from Perkins.
