The Massey Ferguson 50 was a compact utility tractor produced alongside the larger 65, offered with a choice of a Perkins 3.152 diesel or a Continental gasoline/LP-gas engine. It filled the gap between the MF 35 and MF 65 in Massey Ferguson's late-1950s lineup, and later gained the optional Multi-Power power-shift transmission. It was tested at Nebraska in both diesel (Test 807) and LP-gas (Test 658) form.

History

Introduced in the late 1950s, the Massey Ferguson 50 rounded out the smaller end of Massey Ferguson's post-merger tractor range, sitting between the popular MF 35 and the larger MF 65. Buyers could choose a Perkins 3.152 three-cylinder diesel — the same engine family used in the MF 35 — or a Continental four-cylinder engine running on gasoline or LP-gas, giving the model unusual fuel flexibility for a farm tractor of its size.

Like its stablemates, the MF 50 carried Ferguson's signature three-point hitch and live PTO, and later in production it could be ordered with the Multi-Power power-shift transmission, doubling its six-speed gearbox to twelve speeds without declutching. The model was also sold in an industrial configuration. Its diesel and LP-gas variants were each run through the Nebraska Tractor Test Lab, documented in Tests 807 and 658 respectively.
