John Deere Model A

Row-crop tractor · 1934–1952 · Distillate

The John Deere Model A, launched in 1934, was Deere's first true general-purpose row-crop tractor, built with an adjustable rear tread width to compete head-on with International Harvester's Farmall line. Powered by Deere's signature two-cylinder engine, it grew from 309 to 321 cubic inches over an 18-year run. Late-production 1952 models became the first Deere tractors equipped with the industry-first Powr-Trol hydraulic system, bridging the two-cylinder era and modern hydraulics.
