The Allis-Chalmers D14 launched the company's D-series in 1957 as a compact three-plow row-crop tractor. It introduced the Power-Director hand clutch and the Snap-Coupler hitch to the small-tractor class, establishing the styling and feature set carried across the entire D line. A short-lived model, it was succeeded by the mechanically similar D15 in 1960 after roughly 23,000 units.

History

The D14 arrived in 1957 as the entry point of the new D-series that replaced the aging WD and WD-45 lineup. It slotted below the larger D17 introduced the same year, giving Allis-Chalmers a modernized two-model row-crop offering built at the company's West Allis, Wisconsin works. Power came from Allis-Chalmers' own 149-cubic-inch four-cylinder engine, offered in gasoline and LP-gas forms and rated at about 34 belt horsepower at Nebraska.

The D14's signature feature was the Power-Director hand clutch, which let the operator shift between a high and low range on the go without touching the foot clutch — a hallmark Allis-Chalmers convenience carried across the D-series. It also featured the Snap-Coupler quick-attach hitch. After only about three years and roughly 23,000 units, the D14 was replaced by the mechanically similar but slightly more powerful D15 in 1960, while the D17 continued above it.
